Established in 1989 in Kyamulibwa sub-county, Kalungu district, rural Uganda. Open population cohort grown from ~8,000 participants at baseline to ~22,000 by 2024, followed annually. Underpins major HIV epidemiology research and has expanded to capture NCDs and broader life-course outcomes; one of the foundational African population cohorts.
