About this cohort

Established in 1962 by IRD in the rural Niakhar area, 135 km east of Dakar, Senegal — one of the world's oldest continuous HDSSs. Initially 65 villages, reduced to 8 (1969–1983) then expanded to 30 villages covering ~43,000 individuals by 2012. Vital events, migrations, marriages, pregnancies and immunisations recorded every four months; data sharing under collaborative conditions only.
