About this cohort
Long-running rural HDSS platform of the MRC Unit The Gambia. Farafenni HDSS, in the North Bank Region, was established in 1981 and now covers >50,000 residents. Basse HDSS, in the Upper River Region, was established in 2007 and as of 2022 covers >213,000 individuals across 224 villages. Together they support research on infectious diseases, demographic dynamics and public health interventions in rural Gambia.
